JOB PURPOSE 

Amnesty International is looking for a media professional to develop media strategies and plans to help achieve its campaign objectives. The role would involve communicating Amnesty’s campaigns and projects to national and regional media, and effectively contributing to the development and implementation of strategies to establish a sustained campaign presence across a range of media outlets. 

Amnesty International is a people’s movement based on global voluntary membership; the global membership is represented by Amnesty International’s membership entities (sections and structures) and its international members.

Amnesty International is accountable to all who benefit from the fulfilment of its Vision and Mission
and to its members, activists, and supporters worldwide.

Amnesty International’s global structure is as follows. The Global Assembly, the highest decision-making body, is made up of representatives from the membership entities and from the international members. The Global Assembly elects the International Board; the International Board and the global work of the
movement are supported by the International Secretariat.

The membership entities, the international members and the International Board are all accountable to the Global Assembly and must comply with this Statute and global strategy, policies and other requirements approved by the Global Assembly in its decisions including the Vision,

ABOUT YOU 

As the Media and Communications Manager, you will have sufficient experience working in the field of communication, media operations in human rights and development sector. You will have good interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills.  

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develop and build a robust campaign and media strategy for Amnesty International Nigeria’s campaign and projects.
  • Manage the organisation’s presence on social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, WhatsApp, and other similar community sites.
  • Provide a weekly summary of analytics of our social media platforms and regularly share insights and analytics gained from social media monitoring with the team.
  • Provide a monthly report on the organisation’s media presence, trends, opportunities and challenges.
  • Manage the Amnesty International Nigeria’s relationships with media vendors – videographers, newspaper, script writers, producers etc. 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal), organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working on organizational communications and social media platforms such as:  Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
  • Ability to exercise good political judgment, thorough analysis, and diplomacy to develop effective strategies to impact on human rights in the region.
  • Ability to deal in a sensitive and understanding manner with a variety of people, including survivors of human rights violations and others whose campaign Amnesty International is championing.
