Australia’s skilled migration program which is intended to fill skill shortages by attracting migrants who can significantly contribute to the Australian economy.

The Skill select program allows skilled worker applicants to obtain a permanent Australia visa. The system is similar to an online job board that matches employers with potential employees. 

The Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) is a points-tested visa that allows invited workers to live and work permanently anywhere in Australia.

Grains Research & Development Corporation

GRDC is responsible for planning, investing in and overseeing research, development and extension (RD&E) for 25 leviable grain crops. It is a corporate Commonwealth entity established under the Primary Industries Research and Development Act 1989 and its portfolio department is the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

Skills and Capabilities
•    Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment. 
•    Strong customer service skills. 
•    Sound written and oral communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication styles as appropriate. 
•    Demonstrated time management skills, including planning, prioritising tasks, and meeting deadlines.
•    Supporting a positive team environment and contributing to team outcomes as well as providing guidance and support to other team members.
•    Assisting with the onboarding process for new employees and ensuring that they, and the hiring manager, have a positive recruitment experience.
•    Acting as the first point of contact for recruitment related enquiries, providing accurate and timely advice on labour hire, non-ongoing and other internal recruitment processes as required.
•    Reviewing, assessing, and coordinating requests to access both internal and external merit pools.
•    Contributing to the implementation and ongoing improvement of recruitment policies, systems, and processes to enhance service delivery.
•    Undertaking procedural, clerical, administrative support, and operational tasks including assisting with the recruitment mailbox and hotline.
•    Contributing to the effective operation of the team, branch, and divisional priorities.


GRDC’s primary objective is to drive the discovery, development and delivery of world-class innovation to enhance the productivity, profitability and sustainability of Australian grain growers and benefit the industry and the wider community.

The resources available to GRDC for investment in RD&E predominantly arise from levies paid by grain growers and contributions made by the Australian Government, with additional income from interest, royalties and grants.

The role
The role of the GRDC Chairperson is to:

·  ensure compliance with statutory obligations
·  ensure that investment in RD&E is undertaken in accordance with government and industry priorities for RD&E and other policy directions as well as ensuring that investments provide value to industry
·  consult and communicate with industry representative organisations, stakeholders and government
·  participate in the Council of Rural Research and Development Corporation Chairs meetings and work collaboratively with other research and development corporations (RDCs)
·  maintain strong governance practices with regular reviews, including periodic review of the board’s functioning and performance.

Skills and experience
The GRDC Chairperson requires the following:

·  Leadership experience.
·  Experience in setting strategic business direction.
·  Highly developed business acumen.
·  Highly developed communication and consultation skills.
·  Board experience.
·  Appreciation of governance practices.
·  Understanding of government.
·  Knowledge and/or experience in the grains industry. 

Remuneration
Remuneration and allowances for the GRDC Chairperson are prescribed by the Australian Government Remuneration Tribunal. The current determination sets remuneration at $82,960 per year for the part-time position and provides for Tier 1 travel allowances.

Assessment of Applications and Appointment
Applications for the GRDC Chairperson position may be assessed without conducting interviews. The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry will provide a list of suitable candidates to the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry for consideration.

The position is a statutory appointment made by the Minister under subsection 17(1) of the Primary Industries Research and Development Act 1989.
