United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

This internship is located within the Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel (STAP) Secretariat in Washington D.C. STAP provides independent scientific and technical advice to the GEF on its policies.

The Internship is for 6 months and UNPAID. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

The United Nations does not financially remunerate interns. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, and accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.

Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients’ environment to keep informed and anticipate problems. Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects. Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

  1. Intern – Environment Affairs – STAP- Washington, DC

Education

a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);


b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN Language is desirable.

  1. Intern – Communications Secretariat of the 10YFP Multiple Positions

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:


a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program
c. Have graduated with Bachelor’s degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent
Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, Knowledge Management, Public Policy, Economics or related discipline. Focus on International Relations welcome.

  1. Intern – Environment Affairs Economic and Finance Transformation

Education

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);


b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent);


Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Final year undergraduate or master’s degree student in Environmental Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Engineering, International Relations, Economics, Social Sciences and/or related field of studies preferred.

Work Experience

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English and Spanish is required
