The Protection Unit, composed of 8 people, supports the work of the Representation by maintaining, among other things, a detailed understanding of the French legal protection framework and its developments, by carrying out monitoring missions in the field and by training international protection actors. It works in collaboration with people under its mandate, as well as with its institutional partners and partners from civil society.
Under the supervision of the Protection Associate, the intern’s mission will be to support the Protection Associate on various monitoring, advocacy and coordination tasks related to the themes of socio-economic inclusion of refugees and family reunification.
Tasks and responsibilities:
Research and drafting of legal notes.
· Monitoring of legislative, jurisprudential and political news.
· Preparation of internal meetings or external events with associative and institutional partners. Drafting of reports.
· Preparation of external interventions and training.
· Support for reception/counselling activities for asylum seekers/refugees.
· Participation in status checks in the applicants’ countries of first asylum.
· Any other activity according to the needs of the Protection Unit.
Desired profile:
* Recent graduates (i.e. people who have completed their studies within the two years preceding their application for the UNHCR internship) or currently pursuing higher education at a university or higher education institution accredited by UNESCO;
* Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the Organization’s action (human law, public international law, international relations, political science, etc.);
* In-depth knowledge of the asylum procedure in France and the actors involved;
* Writing skills in French and English;
* Ability to research, analyze and synthesize;
* Sense of work organization, method and rigor;
* Autonomy, responsiveness and adaptability;
* Minimum level C2 of French proficiency and a minimum level B2 of English proficiency according to the proficiency scale of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Conditions:
Working hours:40 hours/week
Internship Duration: 5 to 6 months minimum
Internship Start Date: Ideally July 8, 2025

Stipend: The current stipend is approximately €1,480/month. Interns not receiving financial support from third-party organizations will receive a stipend to help partially cover food, local transportation, and living expenses.
