INFORMATION SYSTEMS ASSISTANT
United Nations – UN was created in 1945 to become a peacekeeping organisation and a body for nations to resolve conflicts amongst them. The UN was created in response to the destruction caused by World War I and World War II.
United Nations was established by the Charter of the United Nations and Statute of the International Court of Justice. The Charter was signed on June 26, 1945 by representatives of 50 countries. The UN officially came into existence four months later on October 24, 1945.
United Nations replaced the League of Nations, which had failed to prevent the outbreak of World War II. The UN has several main bodies that serve different purposes, including the Secretariat, which is the main administrative organ of the UN. The UN also has a number of specialized agencies, including the Food and Agriculture Organization, the International Civil Aviation Organization, and the International Labour Organization.
United Nations currently has 193 member countries. Each of the Member States of the United Nations has one seat in the General Assembly.

Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following responsibilities: Asset Management:
– Creates notifications to the users and write-off of the equipment.
– Maintains inventory and equipment master data.
– Assists in the receiving, inspecting, and verification of all incoming ICT assets and supplies.
– Issuance of ICT equipment and entering the records in the asset control system.
– Monitors the physical inventory of stocked items on a regular basis to ensure the accuracy of records and the location of the property.
– Maintains and controls proper records for all expendable and non-expendable ICT assets using the Organization’s enterprise asset management systems, such as UMOJA.
– Generates reports using Power BI – Undertakes spare parts tracking and performs other related duties as required. Server/Data Centre Administration:
• Provides the full range of technical assistance in the area of server operations and administration.
• Installs, configures, tests and deploys server systems hardware and software, to include Local Area Network infrastructure, Operating Systems (Unix, Linux, Mac OS), Electronic mail, Lotus Notes, Citrix, Database systems, Web Development software, Firewall systems, Network Services Server systems (DNS, DHCP, NFS, CIFS/SMB, mail relay, and various security software.
• Provides the administration, operation, technical support, and monitoring of server systems; undertakes complex trouble shooting of server systems.
• Works with other Units within the Service to maintain optimal 24/7 operations for the server systems operations.
• Maintains security procedures, including user identification and access control processes to specific ICT resources and data. • Acts upon all security incidents and violations, including reporting them immediately to the FTS Security Coordinator; participates in incidents management activities.
• Assists with the regular security assessments of production and ICT resources to identify potential weaknesses for referral to supervisors; performs risk analysis and provide data for further analysis by supervisors.
• Provides input to identify the need for new systems or re-engineering of the existing systems.
• Responds to requests from user offices and assists in deploying/configuring systems so as to conform to infrastructure standards; implements Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity (DR/BC) and backup services following standard procedures.
Education
High school diploma or recognized equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
A technical or vocational qualification in Information and Telecommunication Systems is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Office of the Chief, Field Technology Section (FTS) of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), duty station Entebbe. The incumbent will report to the Chief FTS.
