Implats – Impala Platinum Limited was created in 1968 as a subsidiary of Union Corporation, which established a platinum mine in 1966 at Rustenburg. The mine had an initial capacity of 100,000 ounces per year, and technical advice came from Canadian company Inco, while British bank Hambros provided financial advice. 

Implats began the first vertical shaft which it developed in 1967, and commercial production began in July 1969 after a mining lease was granted over land predominantly held by the then Bafokeng Tribe (now the Royal Bafokeng Nation).

Implats employs more than 70,000 people across all operations, and markets and sells its products in South Africa, Japan, China, the US, and Europe. The metals produced by Implats are the key to making many essential industrial, medical, and electronic items.

  • Ensure control and efficient management of PMR Managers office by assisting with appointments, diary management, incoming and outgoing correspondence, co-ordinating internal / external events, compiling presentations, attending to travel and accommodation arrangements.
  • Conduct administrative tasks i.e., collate information for month end reports, attend meetings, compile minutes of meetings and ensure timeous distribution.
  • Render support services to the PMR Department including document management duties.
  • Operate telephone / switchboard, ensure proper internal communication with the department, and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Maintain departmental intranet site on SharePoint.
  • Submit PMR General and Metal Accounting Departments monthly 100 Club Objectives for the month. · Update relevant PJOs for the department.

DEPARTMENT / DOMAIN:         BMR – NICKEL

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To perform process control duties as per the section specific procedures to enable the section / plant to meet production targets with respect to time, quality, reduced frequency of errors and wastage reduction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science or ABET Level 4 essential.
  • Completion of all BL modules and one Nickel Process Controller module (excl. Nickel Clerk) essential.
  • Strong analytical, planning and problems solving skills.
  • Good understanding of risk assessments, principles of handling material and plant specific processes.
  • Computer literacy i.e. MS Office, SAP will be an added advantage.
  • Must be medically fit for BMR.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Carry out all tasks associated with the Process Controller position – as per the Nickel CPDP.
  • Ensure that work is carried out in compliance with work procedures.
  • Meet section specific production targets and to attend to and report production related problems.
  • Conduct analysis, monitor purities and yields and report where required.
  • Ensure that log sheets (and other required documentation) are updated accurately, conduct analyses and monitor operations.
  • Utilize the correct amount of chemicals and other supplies and control chemical spillages.
  • Perform on-the-job training on the modules found competent in as per CPDP guidelines.
  • Responsible for promoting and maintaining safety, environmental, quality and security standards in area of work.
  • Promote and maintain good housekeeping in area of responsibility.
