Job Description
They are currently looking to fill 4 Mill Crushing Assistant positions across their sites in the Burdekin Region, with work commencing from May 2024 onwards.
This is an entry level position and employees at this level could be expected to carry out a very broad range of duties to suit the needs of the business and could be expected to be moved around within the workforce to undertake any required duties. A Mill Crushing Assistant must be physically able to perform all the manual tasks that may be required to maintain factory operations and to carry out general maintenance.
You will be paid under the Sugar Industry Award – Level 3, an hourly rate of $29.16 per hour, and seasonal 6-7 month contract with an average minimum of 38 hours per week. There is potential to upskill in this roll.
Key duties include:
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Ensure tools & materials are in a safe and serviceable condition before use.
- Correctly use the ‘Permit to Work’ as per the Wilmar Mills Permit to Work procedure.
- Correctly use ‘Out of Service’, “Isolation’ and “Personal Protection’ tags, and “Out of Service’ and ‘Personal Protective’ locks as per Wilmar’s Mills Isolation and Lock out procedures.
- Loading, carting and storing excess bagasse
- Loading sugar train / collecting train samples
- Dipping the sugar bin and lime tank silo
- Clean/check lime plant
- Lancing the boilers as required
- Assist with bin derailments
- Assist station operators as required
- General plant operating including mobile plant such as forklift, loader, truck, crane, etc.
- Effluent system management as required by shift supervisor
- General housekeeping, with a focus on the sugar hopper and factory ground floors
- Maintaining the shift mobile plant in good condition
- Completing pre-start checks on all machinery and reporting any faults to the Shift Supervisors
- Ensure that machines are operated within workplace health and safety guidelines
- Provide on-the-job training as required. This includes training the new operators for the positions
- Participate in on-going training and induction programs
- Assist tradespersons in the maintenance and repair of mill equipment and machinery
- Monitor and identify leaks, process problems and report to supervisor with accompanying paperwork to allow progression of repairs
- Maintain a high level of housekeeping
- Other duties as directed by the Production Superintendent, or their delegate, as long as these are legal, logical and safe to do so and not in conflict with the current EA.
Key Skills & Experience
An employee at this level is required to:
- Work under supervision.
- Exercise decision making/responsibility within their level of skill and training.
- Demonstrate awareness of general quality control standards, in particular responsibility for their own work and advise of quality control problems where identified.
- Assist with on-the-job training.
- Service and adjust equipment according to their level of skill and training, and advise of any additional maintenance required.
- Demonstrate general housekeeping skills.
- Demonstrate ability to use common language skills to engage in communication and to read and understand written and oral instructions plus prepare records that convey information accurately and concisely.
