Harmony is a global gold mining and exploration company with a copper footprint in the Wafi-Golpu and Eva Copper projects. Harmony is also a major player in the circular economy of gold, as it is the largest producer of gold from the retreatment of old tailings dams
Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited (Harmony) was created as a public company on August 25 1950, to operate the Harmony mine in the Free State. Harmony is a subsidiary of Rand Mines, a mining finance house, and first gold was poured in September 1954.
Harmony is South Africa’s largest gold producer, with nine underground mines, one open-pit mine, and several surface operations in the country. Harmony also operates in Papua New Guinea, one of the world’s top gold-copper regions.
- From 1997, Harmony embarked on an acquisition strategy to expand the company from being a single-lease mining operation to becoming an independent, multi-operation, worldclass gold producer, commencing with the acquisition of Lydenburg Exploration Limited, as well as the Unisel, Grootvlei and Consmodder operations
- Between 1998 and 2000 Harmony acquires additional mining rights in the Free State, Mpumalanga, Gauteng and North West provinces in South Africa:
- Evander and Masimong in 1998
- Kalgold in 1999
- Randfontein in 2000
- Elandskraal in 2001
In 2003, a landmark deal was successfully concluded whereby black economic empowerment firm African Rainbow Minerals Gold acquired a 20% stake in Harmony.
- Through this empowerment deal, Harmony fully acquired the Freegold operations
- On 1 October 2003, Dr Patrice Motsepe was appointed chairman
- Harmony transferred its listing from Nasdaq to the New York Stock Exchange in November 2002
- Acquired a 50% share of Freegold which included the Joel, Phakisa, Tshepong and Bambanani mines
- In 2002, Harmony entered Papua New Guinea, acquiring an initial stake in the Hidden Valley exploration project

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- · The age limit will be 35 years for novices and 45 years for skilled candidates
- · Grade 12 certificate and reference to the High School attended
- · Ex miners: Valid Certificates of competence as per skill and record of service
- · Must be a local citizen from your Region
- · Letter from your ward councillor stating ward number /district
- · Must be South African Citizen with valid proof of identity
- · Water and light account as proof of residence/address verification cert from CES
- · Proficient in English speaking
- · Ability to pass an underground Certificate of Fitness
- · Need to pass Security Screening (No fraud, theft or violence)
