AUDA was formed at the 31st Ordinary Session of the Assembly of African Union Heads of State and Government in Nouakchott, Mauritania, June 2018, a decision was taken to transform the NEPAD Planning and Coordination Agency into the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD). The establishment of AUDA-NEPAD is part of the global reforms geared at improving the Union’s impact and operational efficiency.

AUDA-NEPAD mandate is to:

a) Coordinate and Execute priority regional and continental projects to promote regional integration towards the accelerated realisation of Agenda 2063;

b) Strengthen capacity of African Union Member States and regional bodies, advance knowledge-based advisory support, undertake the full range of resource mobilisation and serve as the continent’s technical interface with all Africa’s development stakeholders and development partners.

The new AUDA-NEPAD mandate gives the organisation a wider role in terms of providing knowledge-based advisory support to AU Member States in the pursuit of their national development priorities. The core functions of the Agency are to:

  • Incubate innovative programmes in various fields, including technology, research and development, knowledge management, and data analytics;
  • Provide technical and implementation support to RECs and Member States in the development and execution of priority projects and programmes;
  • Assist Member States and RECs to strengthen capacity in key areas such as food and nutrition, energy, water, infrastructure, information and communication technology and digital economy, natural resource governance, climate change and institutional and human capital development and innovation;

The African Union Development Agency invites applicants who are citizens of African Union Member States for the post of Energize Africa Fellow: Private Sector Development .

Under the supervision of the Senior Program Officer Industrialisation and Competitiveness, the Energize Fellow will support the Industrialisation and Competitiveness Unit in the Bureau of the Industrial Development and Trade Directorate and will be responsible for the following duties:

Specifically, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

  1. Provide support in the development and implementation of regional policies, strategies, and programs for the private sector in the SADC region.
  2. Support in Streamlining the execution of  frameworks governing the  private sector engagement in the SADC region.
  3. Coordinate the organization of workshops and meetings focused on promoting private sector initiatives in the SADC region.
  4. Support  in the formulation of programs aimed at nurturing the growth and advancement of Small and Medium scale Enterprises in the SADC region.
  5. Assist in the assessment  of the capabilities of SADC to  establishment a sustainable capacity-building program for the private sector  in the SADC region.
  6. Assist in the preparation and presentation of budgets for the Industrialisation and Competitiveness Units.

Required Skills and Competencies

  1. Should be excellent at presentation.
  2. Good knowledge of computer and application packages.
  3. Good planning and organization skills.
  4. Should be able to produce both analytical and descriptive reports.

Education and Experience:

Candidates must have a minimum qualification of bachelor’s Degree in  Business Administration / Management / Economics/ Development Studies. A minimum of one-year relevant professional experience at policy formulation and implementation. Experience in strategy, policy, and programme formulation and implementation. Have very good knowledge of the structure and functioning of the SADC region’s economies.

Language requirement: Proficiency in one of the following African Union working languages is a requirement; English, French, Portuguese and Arabic. Knowledge of one or more of the other AU working languages would be an added advantage.

Tenure of AppointmentThe appointment will be made on an AU short term contract for a period of one (1) years, of which the first three (3) months will be considered as a probationary period.
