Save the Children: GCF Programme Coordinator Harare (2023)

Closes: 22 June 2023

We employ approximately 25,000 people across the globe and work on the ground in over 100 countries to help children affected by crises, or those that need better healthcare, education and child protection. We also campaign and advocate at the highest levels to realize the right of children and to ensure their voices are heard. We are working towards three breakthroughs in how the world treats children by 2030:

· No child dies from preventable causes before their 5th birthday
· All children learn from a quality basic education and that,
· Violence against children is no longer tolerated

We know that great people make a great organization, and that our employees play a crucial role in helping us achieve our ambitions for children. We value our people and offer a meaningful and rewarding career, along with a collaborative and inclusive workplace where ambition, creativity, and integrity are highly valued.

Around the world, too many children start life at a disadvantage simply because of who they are and where they come from.

Millions of children are dying from preventable causes, face poverty, violence, disease and hunger. They are caught up in war zones and disasters they did nothing to create. And they are denied an education and other basic rights owed to them.

All children deserve better. We champion the rights and interests of children worldwide, putting the most vulnerable children first.

With 25,000 dedicated staff across 116 countries, we respond to major emergencies, deliver innovative development programmes, and ensure children’s voices are heard through our campaigning to build a better future for and with children.

We believe in a world where every child grows up healthy, safe and educated – playing, learning and looking forward to a future filled with joy and hope. But right now, Covid-19, conflict and the climate crisis are undoing decades of progress for children and their rights.

Today children are facing injustice. 1 billion children don’t have basic healthcare. 1 billion children live in deep poverty. 450 million children are not learning. 400 million children grow up in conflict.

Our 2022-24 Global Strategy is about disrupting the negative trend and challenging the status quo to accelerate and amplify impact with children. It is about repairing the broken and unequal systems that are hurting children today and building new solutions to last a lifetime.

By 2024 we will amplify our impact for hundreds of millions more children across more than 100 countries. We will work to ensure every child can:

  • Get a healthy start in life.
  • Learn and go to school safely.
  • Live free from violence.
  • Grow up in resilient families.

We will champion children and their local communities, elevate their voices, and make decisions together.

We will partner more strategically with peers, the private sector and government and mobilise people and institutions to change public opinions, policies and laws.

We will use data, strengthen evidence and use digital technology to ensure quality education, healthcare and protection for millions more children, faster.

We will become a truly inclusive organisation that invests in diverse talent, achieving more for children with every dollar spent.

We are committed to holding ourselves accountable for the promises we make to our supporters, partners, staff, and most of all, children. This means looking back at our commitments, celebrating our successes and learning from any mistakes in order to do more and do better.

In 2022, we directly reached nearly 48.8 million children across 116 countries around the world. We responded to 107 emergencies in 66 countries, reaching 34.4 million people including 18.8 million children.
