China is the world’s second-largest economy, the largest CO2 emitter, and Germany’s most important trading partner. According to the German Federal Government’s China Strategy, the country is simultaneously a partner, competitor, and systemic rival. The priority is to implement effective environmental and climate policies together with China. Another goal is to strengthen the rule of law in China. China is becoming increasingly intertwined with the world.
