GIZ – The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is offering master’s students the opportunity to complete a six-month internship in the German Sustainability Code (DNK) project from June to December 2025. Developed by the German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE), the German Sustainability Code (DNK) has been supporting companies in their sustainability reporting since 2011.

The project “Capacity Development for the Implementation of Rwanda’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)” is being implemented by GIZ in Rwanda as part of the Rwandan-German Climate and Development Partnership. The project aims to improve the institutional and financial frameworks of government and non-governmental actors in Rwanda for the coordination, implementation, financing, and monitoring of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
The project provides technical support, policy advice, and capacity development measures for the Ministry of Environment, other ministries, the private sector, civil society organizations, and science and research actors, all of whom are central to NDC implementation in Rwanda.
During your internship, you will have the following tasks, among others:
- Support in the implementation of the project “Capacity Development for the Implementation of Rwanda’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)” and the operationalization of the Rwandan-German Climate and Development Partnership.
- Contribution to the implementation, coordination and monitoring of regular exchange and cooperation formats as well as the dialogue between local actors and development partners for the implementation of the NDC.
- Support in the design, implementation and monitoring of project activities with the respective target groups (private sector, civil society, science and research institutions, etc.).
- Students in their 4th semester or higher with (very) good grades and a recommendation for an international internship abroad.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and German. Knowledge of French is an advantage.
- Practical experience in an international professional context, e.g. in development cooperation, with a civil society organization or in the private sector.
- Strong interest in development cooperation with Africa or another country in the Global South, ideally in the African context or a similar environment.
- Ability to work independently and flexibly in an intercultural team, strong reliability, discretion and high motivation.
- Structured working style with a high degree of self-organization, creativity as well as strong communication, presentation and moderation skills.
