New Zealand has had a long history of immigration from Britain, with the migrant inflow being especially important in the second half of the 19th century. War and economic depression disrupted immigration at various times in the first half of the 20th century, but there was another surge of British immigration to New Zealand in the decades after the Second World War.
Between 1947 and 1975, a total of 77,000 women, children and men arrived from Great Britain under the assisted immigration scheme. Smaller numbers came from the Netherlands and some other European countries. Non-British immigrants in particular introduced new customs, foods, ideas and practices, and together with later arrivals helped shape modern New Zealand society.

Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has created the AEWV system to simplify the visa application process for accredited employers, as the new Accredited Employer Work Visa replaces 6 of the former temporary work visas. The changes to the employment immigration process will not only streamline the visa process for employers but also give migrants more certainty when arriving in New Zealand. This also aims to reduce the misuse of the immigration system and the mistreatment or exploitation of migrant workers.
Employer Accreditation is now the first step in INZ’s 3-step process for employing migrant workers in a shift to create a more employer-led immigration system. All employers or migrant workers must hold the compulsory accreditation issued by INZ to support migrants on the new Accredited Employer Work Visa.
When to apply for accreditation?
Employers only need to apply for accreditation when they intend to hire new migrant workers, or renew their existing migrant visas, under AEWV. You cannot support any AEWV applications if you do not hold a current accreditation. If you are looking to become accredited and employ migrant staff, talk to the team at CC Recruitment and we’ll guide you smoothly through the whole process.
