Position Summary:

The Lead, Hull & Vessel Energy Efficiency Performance will be responsible for identification and analysis of energy optimization opportunities throughout the Royal Caribbean Group fleet. This role will be responsible for overseeing the coordination of underwater hull cleanings and analyzing hull paint performance data to provide actionable recommendations for future coatings. This role is critical in ensuring the optimal performance and efficiency of the fleet through effective hull maintenance and performance analysis.

This position will also support energy optimization initiatives such as service power optimization, and power plant energy performance.  This role will support Royal Caribbean Group’s decarbonization strategy, a high-profile element of the company’s key strategic initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for tracking and advising the performance of the decarbonization levers to meet the Group’s emissions reduction targets and KPIs. This includes playing a role in the planning, implementation, and evolution of the emissions reduction roadmap in collaboration with an interdisciplinary set of stakeholders across the corporation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage schedules for regular underwater hull cleanings across the fleet.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external service providers to ensure timely and efficient execution of hull cleanings.
  • Monitor and report on the status and effectiveness of hull cleaning operations.
  • Collect and analyze hull performance data, focusing on the efficacy of hull coatings and the impact of cleaning schedules.
  • Develop and maintain a database of hull performance metrics and historical data.
  • pare detailed reports on hull performance, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Validate energy efficiency benefits of different hull coating technologies.
  • Evaluate the performance of current hull coatings and provide data-driven recommendations for future coating selections.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in hull coating technologies and assess their potential benefits for the fleet.
  • Collaborate with the procurement and technical teams to trial and implement new hull coating solutions.
  • Ensure all hull cleaning and maintenance activities comply with relevant environmental and safety regulations.
  • Develop and implement best practices and standard operating procedures for underwater hull maintenance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marine operations, technical services, and environmental compliance, to drive holistic improvements in hull performance.
  • Communicates past, present, and future energy and emissions reduction plans and performance through formal presentations and reports as the singular point of reference
  • Dedicated in improving Fleet Energy Efficiency by providing shipboard and shoreside assistance with regards to energy optimization and improving performance. Assist vessels in performance related issues by means of close dialogue, vessel visits in port and sailing onboard vessels when required.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in hull maintenance, performance analysis, or a related field within the maritime industry.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in data analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of hull coating technologies and underwater maintenance practices.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to travel as required to oversee hull cleaning operations and inspections.

Financial/Quantitative Responsibilites:

  • Responsible for interpreting and communicating operational expense impacts with finance and marine operations teams
  • Analyzing, communicating, presenting, and reporting on progress towards fuel and emission reduction targets
  • Ability to report on the OpEx and CapEx implications of forecast changes
  • Keep up to date with the latest regulatory compliance landscape regarding sustainability and climate-related requirements and evaluating the potential risk and/or impact to the decarbonization plan and cost impacts
