GIZ was established on 1 January 2011 as the result of a merger betwen three organisations: the German Development Service (DED), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH and Capacity Building International, Germany (InWEnt). The aim of this merger was to pool the expertise of German development cooperation, increase efficiency and enhance Germany’s international profile as a partner for sustainable development.

Bavarian Africa Office reports to the Bavarian State Chancellery and promotes the establishment and expansion of long-term partnerships between African and Bavarian actors in the areas of economic cooperation, scientific cooperation and development cooperation. Geographically, the office’s work focuses primarily on Bavaria’s four partner regions in Africa (Ethiopia, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia) as well as on pan-African initiatives involving the African Union.

  • Support in the monitoring and further development of concrete cooperation formats between Bavarian and African actors
  • Support for monitoring, research and reporting on political and socio-economic developments in Ethiopia, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia and at African Union level
  • Support in the organization of events of the Africa Office
  • Support in the conception and preparation of delegation trips of the Bavarian State Government/the Bavarian State Parliament to Africa
  • Student or graduate (preferably already with completed bachelor’s degree) with (very) good grades and international orientation
  • Very good written and oral expression skills in German and English; Knowledge of French, Arabic or Amharic is an advantage
  • Practical experience in an international professional context
  • Clearly expressed interest in cooperation with the African continent
  • Ability to work independently and flexibly in an intercultural team at multiple locations
  • Reliability, discretion and high motivation

 We pay a monthly stipend of €2,205.01 (gross).
