GIZ Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a global programme for the prevention of violence and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. International and nationl experts provide long-term support to partner organisations in their commitment to dialogue, human rights and peace.
GIZ programme in Guatemala focuses on topics such as dealing with the past, empowering young persons and women in their sociopolitical participation, and building non-violent social relationships. The programme integrates a psychosocial approach and assits partner organizations to incorporate conflict sensitive and psychosocial support when accompanying communities and individuals that experienced or presently experience violence and (other) human rights violations.

GIZ’s Development Service is looking forward to applications of candidates with a professional qualification and / or university degree and at least two years of professional experience.
Willingness to travel on a regular basis is required. Valid driver´s license and ample experience with driving comfortably in urban and rural areas, including land roads. The actual departure date depends on the visa and entry regulations of the country of assignment.

- Coordinated integration of a psychosocial approach into the CPS country programme and its collaborative projects
- Facilitation of thematic MHPPS workshops, dialogue and reflective learning spaces for the CPS team and for its partner organizations
- Technical support to partner organizations for a structural incorporation of practices that promote self- and staff-care and sensitivity when working with local communities and individuals affected by violence
- Redaction of methodology, practical tools, and communication products that are sensitive to local psychosocial experiences and contribute as promising practices to the knowledge management
- Continuous monitoring, dialogue and revision of the psychosocial support provided to partner organizations and involved CPS personnel to match the current needs
- Studies in psychology, social work, or similar, with additional education in human rights, dealing with the past, and/or conflict transformation
- Several years of in-field work with individuals and/or actors that have been confronted with violence and other forms of human rights violations
- Experience in facilitation of workshops and organization of dialogue spaces with multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary participants
- Experience in advising civil society organizations on self- and staff-care, and related psychosocial topics
- Good knowledge of the post-conflict context in Latin America is desirable, preferably Guatemala
- High resilience and self-reflection capacity, especially in fragile contexts. Team player and sensivity in comunication for individual needs
- High intercultural sensitivity and respect for traditions, and cosmovision of the Guatemalan Mayan population and their traditional (mental) health practices
- Business Fluent in German and/or English, business fluent in Spanish
The security situation requires heightened vigilance. Tailored security risk mitigation measures are in place for GIZ staff in country. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. Please also check the county-specific information provided by the German Federal Foreign Office. GIZ runs a professional security risk management system in the field of deployment. In some cases, there may be restrictions on freedom of movement that are specific to the environment in which the work is carried out. GIZ does not impose any restrictions on life partners and family members to move with you to the country of deployment.
