GIZ The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a program for non-violent conflict transformation and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. In Kenya, the GIZ CPS contributes to the transformation of violent conflicts in the context of social inequalities.

GIZ program supports civil society partners as well as one governmental partner organization committed to strengthening conflict transformation through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, the establishment of dialogue structures and psychosocial support services. Further, since 2014, CPS also runs the special initiative “Preventing Displacements – Reintegrating IDPs”. It focuses on reconciliation between Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) as well as refugees and host communities, strengthening cooperation between IDP/refugees, host communities and government, as well as advocacy and legal awareness.

The Advisor will work closely with at least one partner organisation in designing, implementing, monitoring and reporting of strategic interventions. He will provide technical support to the program component “Structural strengthening of partner organisations”, adding his*her knowledge to that of other team members and thus enriching the overall project programming.

  • Assist in building or strengthening the capacity of local experts and other partner staff in peace education / conflict transformation, including Do-no-Harm and Early Response, through training-on-the-job.
  • Participate in project activities, exchange meetings and workshops designed by the partner organization(s) and provide the necessary support that may be required
  • Work with the selected partner organization(s) on the development, updating or refining of materials related to conflict transformation, including Do-no-Harm and Early Response
  • Support networking and collaboration to build and strengthen relevant relationships, share information and ideas, find or explore new opportunities to shape programming and integrate specific fields of expertise into peace education, e.g. Mental Health and Psychosocial Support.
  • Work with the selected partner organization(s) in the designing/development of technical proposals and budgets for project(s) implementation.
  • Guide and support the partner organization(s) in and contribute to the development of reports from the partner organizations and its local peace experts
  • Cooperate with the PME Advisor as well as with the Partner Organizations in monitoring and evaluation of joint activities/projects including compilation of change/success stories
  • If necessary, provide administrative support during project implementation or programme related engagements.
  • If required, participate and support conflict analysis and context assessments as well as trend analysis to inform or shape programming.

The security situation requires heightened vigilance. Tailored security risk mitigation measures are in place for GIZ staff in country. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. Please also check the county-specific information provided by the German Federal Foreign Office. GIZ runs a professional security risk management system in the field of deployment. In some cases, there may be restrictions on freedom of movement that are specific to the environment in which the work is carried out. GIZ does not impose any restrictions on life partners and family members to move with you to the country of deployment. Please note that the general and personal living conditions in the country of assignment may meet with different legal and social acceptance. We gladly support you with our many years of experience.
