Must be eligible to work 40 hours per week.Previous experience as security in either health care or emergency shelter, is an asset for this role.
We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Security Guard to join our team. This role is vital to maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors at an emergency shelter. Theideal candidate will have a strong sense of responsibility, professionalism, and the ability to respond calmly and effectively in potentially high-stress situations.
Key Responsibilities: Maintain a visible and approachable presence to ensure the safety and security of shelter occupants and staff.
Patrol assigned areas both inside and outside the shelter, regularly monitoring entrances, exits, and surrounding grounds.
Enforce shelter rules, policies, and procedures to prevent unauthorized activities and address disruptive behavior.
Respond promptly to emergencies, including medical situations, altercations, and fire or safety hazards, and contact appropriate emergency services when necessary.
Assist with incident reporting and maintain accurate and detailed logs of security activities and any significant incidents.
Collaborate with shelter staff to support residents and address security concerns.
Perform regular checks of the building, ensuring doors, windows, and gates are locked or secured as necessary.
Diffuse potentially volatile situations with effective communication and conflict-resolution skills.
Requirement: High school diploma or equivalent.
A minimum of 1-2 years of experience woking in the security industry or related field.
Prior experience in security, health care, or related fields is preferred.
Must have a valid Ontario Security License.
Basic First Aid and CPR certification.
Strong observational and reporting skills.
Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and with professionalism.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse populations.
Must pass a background check, inluding a criminal record check.
Physically capable of standing or walking for long periods, climbing stairs, and occasionally lifting or carrying up to 20 kilograms.
