In 2018 Job Bank’s job search tools are made available to Canadian job seekers as a mobile app. The Job Bank mobile app is one of the first developed by the Government of Canada, as part of its commitment to provide Canadians with digital services that work for them.

A cook’s job description may include:

• Preparing food: Cooking meals according to recipes, washing, chopping, and mixing ingredients
• Maintaining kitchen standards: Ensuring food portions and presentation meet company standards, storing food at the right temperature, and keeping ingredients fresh
• Cleaning and sanitizing: Washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and taking out trash
• Assisting other cooks: Helping to complete food orders in a timely manner
• Resolving customer issues: Handling problems with customers’ orders

Other responsibilities may include:

• Operating a grill, oven, or fryer

Cooks should have excellent cooking skills, be able to follow instructions, and be deft at multitasking. They should also have experience using various ingredients and cooking techniques.

• Lead cook: Oversees restaurant operations and other cooks, and works closely with restaurant managers, cooks, and front of house staff
• Line cook: Juggles many tasks in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

• Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
• Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
• Cook food in various utensils or grillers
• Check food while cooking to stir or turn
• Ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served
• Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen
• Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
• Check quality of ingredients
• Monitor stock and place orders when there are shortages

• Proven experience as cook
• Experience in using cutting tools, cookware and bakeware
• Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)
• Ability to follow all sanitation procedures
• Ability to work in a team
• Very good communication skills
• Excellent physical condition and stamina
