United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights is Hiring [2024]

ICT Officers are Required

United Nations (UN) Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR) was created in 1946 to create conventions on a variety of issues, including civil liberties, freedom of information, and an international bill of rights. The UNCHR was the UN’s primary mechanism for promoting and protecting human rights until 2006, when the UN General Assembly voted to replace it with the UN Human Rights Council.

United Nations human rights program began in the 1940s as a small division at UN Headquarters. In the 1980s, the division moved to Geneva and became the Centre for Human Rights. In 1993, the World Conference on Human Rights adopted the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action, which called for the General Assembly to establish a High Commissioner for Human Rights.

United Nations Human Rights Council is made up of 47 members, each serving a three-year term. Members are elected annually by the General Assembly using the United Nations regional grouping system.
