TRAFFIC International is a charity and limited company registered in the UK. TRAFFIC’s head office, based in Cambridge UK, provides worldwide leadership, coordination, cross-regional and corporate functions. TRAFFIC’s local engagement is managed through programme offices operating under the auspices of the UK charity, with staff based in a hub office and at other strategic locations where necessary.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The SADC TWIX Project Manager will be responsible for managing the implementation and further development of SADC-TWIX.

Specific Duties

• Maintains and grows contact with wildlife law enforcement agencies and other relevant representatives in SADC Member States;
• Manages the SADC-TWIX mailing list, which includes but is not limited to keeping the mailing list active, managing the server of the mailing list, liaising with the server provider in case of problems, and ensuring that all queries on the mailing list are addressed;
• Manages the SADC-TWIX database of seizure which includes liaising with wildlife enforcement agencies in relation to the transfer of their seizure data to the database, and the cleaning and uploading of seizure data,
• Manages all components of the SADC-TWIX website and provides support related to future IT developments;
• Undertakes trips to SADC countries, as required;
• Seeks national-level support for the SADC-TWIX system in all participating countries and enlarges the number of its users;
• Works closely with the Secretariat of SADC, partner states, inter-governmental organisations and other stakeholders in the implementation and running of SADC-TWIX;
• Convenes, facilitates and/or chairs meetings and workshops, and consolidates relationships with project collaborators;
• Promotes SADC-TWIX among its target audiences and externally and provides assistance to SADC-TWIX users in relation to the use of the system;
• Produces meeting reports detailing agencies/persons consulted and meeting outcomes;
• Engages with other TRAFFIC staff on SADC-TWIX and the co-ordination of TWIX platforms; and
• Performs other related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS

 • A university degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline demonstrating understanding of the subject area;

• A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience working in wildlife policy, conservation or law enforcement, with government, an international non-governmental organization (NGO), inter-governmental organization (IGO), or research institution;

• Strong communication and networking skills and ability to work with sensitivity in different cultural contexts

• Experience working with law enforcement agencies;

• Familiarity with wildlife conservation issues in SADC region

• Fluency and excellent writing skills in English essential, with competency in Portuguese and/or French an advantage

• Willingness and ability to travel widely and frequently and to work under pressure

• Good IT literacy and experience with Microsoft Office

• Strong analytical skills, and an ability to articulate complex issues clearly; and

• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues

• Organizational skills
