 NGO internship programme is to provide a framework by which students pursuing or having recently completely a tertiary education are assigned to UNICEF offices to enhance their education experience through practical work assignments; to expose them to the work of the UNICEF; and to provide UNICEF offices with the assistance of qualified students or recent graduates specialized in various professional fields.

The WASH Enabling Environment intern will support the UNICEF WASH section’s Enabling Environment (EE) team in undertaking extensive system-strengthening initiatives for sustainable WASH services in Zambia, specifically focusing on policy, strategy, financing, coordination, and data. This work involves significant engagement with government ministries, agencies, commercial utilities and various partners nationally and sub-nationally, generating a substantial administrative workload.

Eligibility & Minimum requirements

  • To be considered for the internship, applicants have to meet the following requirements:
  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Be proficient in at least one of UNICEF’s working languages: English, French, or Spanish. Fluency in the working language of the office you are applying to is required.
  • Additional consideration will be given to any WASH related past experience.
  • Additional consideration will be given to applicants whose academic research projects or theses have a direct relevance to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).
  • Demonstrated initiative, leadership, and growth mindset are also an advantage.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English

Desirables:

  • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
