United Nations Development Programme – UNDP was created in 1966 by the United Nations General Assembly after merging two earlier programs:

  • United Nations Expanded Programme of Technical Assistance: Created in 1949
  • United Nations Special Fund: Established in 1958 

Here are some other things to know about the UNDP: 

  • In 2020, the UNDP worked with other UN agencies, the Lebanese government, and partners to help Lebanon recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. 
  • The UNDP’s Sustainable Finance Hub leveraged $17 billion in additional investment in the SDGs, mostly from private capital and public tax revenue. 
  • The UNDP’s Evaluation Policy includes independent evaluations carried out within the overall provisions of the policy. 
  • The UNDP’s Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) provides the UNDP Executive Board with information from evaluations for corporate accountability, decision-making, and improvement

Duties and Responsibilities
 

Under the overall supervision of the Chief Technical Advisor and direct supervision of the Senior National Technical Advisor the “Project Officer Youth and Community Engagement Gwadar” is expected to achieve the aforementioned deliverables, working in close collaboration with the team members in projects.

Manage the Implementation of the community stabilization project Gwadar 

  • Manage the overall implementation of the community stabilization project in Gwadar district in a timely manner and be responsible for the quality control of project activities and inputs, in line with UNDP’s policies and practices as well as donor requirements. 
  • Supervise the implementing partners, in implementing activities, including reporting, monitoring, and evaluation, and identify and implement project delivery and coordination improvements.
  • Ensure effective implementation of day-to-day operations to ensure quality-based implementation of the project and delivery of its outputs
  • Establish systems for project planning, implementation, and closeout and record and maintain documents on relevant program activities, issues, and risks.
  • Identify and provide capacity-building support and opportunities to the local partners in coordination with the subject experts.
  • Organize and lead the project-related activities including the organization of roundtables, inception workshops, training, working meetings, and other events.

Establish and maintain strategic partnerships  with Government stakeholders, and local partners

  • Development of partnerships with the government institutions private sector, civil society, and academia aiming at coordinating and promoting Project related activities. 
  • Participate in and contribute to relevant meetings as requested; debrief CS Project technical and management on critical issues.
  • Maintain the smooth flow of communication, exchange of information, and collaboration with and between partners and establish strong relationships with the project’s NGOs and national counterparts.
  • Undertake other activities reasonably requested by the consultants, UNDP, and other stakeholders for the successful accomplishment of the immediate objectives.

Gender Mainstreaming

  • Ensure gender aspects are integrated into all Gwadar project activities and practices of the project implementing partner. 
  • Ensure equal opportunities for female staff members of the project.

The incumbent of the position will uphold the non-discriminatory behavior and ensure that:

  • Human rights and gender equality is prioritized as an ethical principle within all actions;
  • Activities are designed and implemented by “Social and Environmental Standards of UN”;
  • All forms of diversities based on ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, disability, religion, class, and gender are respected within all implementations including data production;
  • Differentiated needs of women, men, and persons with non-binary gender identities are considered;
  • An inclusive approach is reflected within all actions and implementations, in that sense an enabling and accessible setup in various senses such as disability gender language barrier is created;

  • Project Management: Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and control resources, procedures and protocols to achieve specific goals.
  • Partnerships Management: Ability to build and maintain partnerships with wide networks of stakeholders, Governments, civil society and private sector partners, experts and others in line with UNDP strategy and policies.
