Stanbic – Standard Bank Group started operating in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, in 1857. Standard Bank opened its first bank in Salisbury, Rhodesia on 20 July 1892. This was the start of their branch extension outside South Africa.

Job Description

Credit Risk Assurance is part of the second line of defense and supports both the Africa Regions Business and Commercial Banking (BCB) CRO and any Credit Risk Executives responsible directly to that role, in providing independent oversight, qualitative assessment and reporting of Credit Risk Management practices throughout BCB. The role also encompasses Credit Risk Governance and Policy that entails being the custodian of all BCB Group-level credit risk policies and standards.

The job ensures that such policies support and entrench the principles articulated in The Group Credit Risk Governance Standard (“The Standard”), and oversight of credit risk delegated authority policy frameworks. This function extends to providing counsel to Regional, Country, or Sub-segment Credit Risk Heads and their Governance Officers in respect of the formulation and review of embedded credit risk policies and delegated authority frameworks, to ensure consistency with BCB Groupwide policies, and in turn The Standard.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
B.Com; B.Econ.; Accounting or related degrees (Masters in Business/ Economics/ Finance/ Banking will be an advantage)

Experience

  • At least 5-7 years Credit Evaluation and/or Business Credit Recovery experience in Business and Commercial Banking, Personal and Private Banking or CIB environment
  • A thorough understanding of Credit Risk analysis, including product knowledge, cash flow analysis and how micro and macro-economic factors can potentially adversely affect the credit risk of a counterparty or portfolio on a forward-looking basis.
  • International and Africa Regions experience would be an advantage.

  • A thorough understanding of the Group Credit Governance Standard and related Business Unit Policies and Procedures.
  • Willingness to travel on average 5 to 6 days per month
